Youth and Orienteering: Successful Presentation and Knowledge Quiz in Hadžići

Organized by the Association for Cooperation and Environmental Improvement, an educational event titled “Youth and Orienteering: Knowledge Quiz and Project Presentation” was held on March 15, 2026, in Hadžići (Tarčin). This one-day event gathered 40 participants, primarily high school students from rural areas, with the aim of promoting outdoor sports and a healthy lifestyle.

Introduction to Navigation Skills

The main focus of the activity was on presenting the ORIUNITE project and the basic principles of orienteering. Through an interactive presentation, participants learned:

  • The basic rules of orienteering and ways to navigate in nature using a map and a compass.

  • How this sport develops teamwork, logical thinking, and orientation skills.

  • The importance of spending active time in nature and involving youth in outdoor activities.

Interactive Learning Through a Quiz

Following the theoretical part, a knowledge quiz was organized in a relaxed and competitive atmosphere. The quiz allowed participants to test what they learned, exchange ideas, and connect with one another, creating a supportive environment for the continuation of project activities.

Although one of the main challenges was the participants’ lack of prior knowledge about orienteering, clear explanations and an interactive approach helped them grasp these concepts quickly.

Impressions of the Participants

The evaluation of the event showed a high level of interest among young people for similar educational and sports activities in the future. Participants expressed great enthusiasm about their new knowledge:

“I did not know there were so many ways to navigate. Now I understand much more, and I am excited to try it out in practice,” said Lamija, a participant.

“This is something new for me, and I wish more attention was paid to it in school. This was a great introduction that motivates me to learn more,” said Kenan, a participant.

Conclusion and Outcomes

The event successfully fulfilled its goals, improving the youth’s understanding of orienteering and strengthening their communication skills. In addition to education, special attention was dedicated to safety and environmental preservation, providing participants with guidelines for responsible behavior during future outdoor activities.
